If you’re sweet on sweet onions and sweet Italian sausage, this is the rice-bowl recipe you’ve been waiting for. Buon appetito!


  • 1 pkg  UNCLE BEN’S® Basmati Medley, Savory Herb
  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage, removed from casing
  • 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 2 1/4 cups sodium-reduced chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup peas


  1. Season sausage meat with salt and pepper. In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; cook sausage meat, breaking up with a spoon, for 4 to 6 minutes or until no longer pink and starting to brown.
  2. Add onion and red pepper; cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until softened.
  3. Stir in rice, seasoning packet, and broth; bring to boil.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and simmer for about 20 minutes or until broth is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat; stir in peas. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  6. Fluff with fork and serve.
