    About this dish

    Just because it's basic doesn't mean it's boring. Once you've got this steamy recipe ready, you can dress it up any way you like.


    • 3⁄4 cup Uncle Ben’s® Original Long Grain Rice
    • 1⁄4 cup short pasta such as orzo or 1” pieces of broken spaghetti, vermicelli or similar thin pasta
    • 2 Tbsp. butter
    • 1⁄4 tsp. salt
    • 1⁄2 onion, diced
    • 2 1⁄4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
    • 1⁄2 cup frozen diced carrots and peas, thawed


    1. Melt the butter in a medium lidded pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and salt, sauté for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the rice and pasta, continue sautéing for 5 minutes more until the rice turns translucent and golden in color.
    2. Add the broth to the pot, stir and turn up heat to medium-high to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and cook for 20 minutes.
    3. Remove from heat, stir in thawed peas and carrots, and set aside for 5 minutes covered. Fluff with a fork and serve.
