About This Dish

A hearty meal for a family of beef lovers. Slow cooking brings out the deep, rich flavor of this American classic.


  • 1 cup UNCLE BEN’S® ORIGINAL CONVERTED® Brand Rice, uncooked
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup butter (8 tablespoons), divided
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1-1/2 cups beef or vegetable stock or broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes, drained
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
  3. Sauté celery, onion and garlic with half the butter.
  4. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Brown the beef with the rest of the butter and add in the tomato paste, diced tomato and oregano. Add the stock and bring mixture to a simmer.
  5. Spoon cooked rice, celery and onion mixture in a casserole dish and pour beef and tomato mixture on top. Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
