You cannot separate rice from good health...

Portion Control

"Since 1990, obesity has increased by over 60% in the United States, and type 2 diabetes, which is closely linked to obesity, has increased by nearly 50%. In an era of super-sized food, we are indeed becoming super-sized ourselves."*

A key to maintaining or losing weight is watching the calorie counts in your favorite foods. Portion control is understanding serving sizes and calories associated with them, and knowing when and how much to cut back.

If you have diabetes and are overweight, losing a few extra pounds by trimming serving sizes and calories, and choosing the appropriate foods can help lower your blood glucose levels.* The following tips can help identify proper portion size:

  • Three ounces of meat, poultry, or fish is about the size of a woman's palm or a deck of playing cards
  • One-half cup of rice, pasta, cut fruit or vegetables is about the size of a small fist
  • One cup of milk, yogurt or chopped fresh greens is about the size of a small hand holding a tennis ball
  • An ounce of cheese is about the size of your thumb
  • A teaspoon of margarine is about the size of your thumb tip

All UNCLE BEN'S® rice products indicate recommended serving size on the nutrition facts panel.
