SMALL & POWERFUL, LIKE THE ATOM

How can something so tiny cause a huge change in the way we eat? Studies show that when you begin with rice, you end up with a meal that's better for you. So how about it, are you ready for the Rice Age?

RICE ANATOMY

Rice Anatomy

Palea

The small, chaff-like bract enclosing the grain. It helps to hold the kernel intact, protecting the bran, germ & endosperm that contain all the nutrients.

Bran

Loaded with B vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, bran is the protective outer-shell coating that gives brown rice and other whole grains a light tan color, nutlike flavor and chewy texture. Fiber in whole grains helps to maintain gut health.

Germ

The germ is the embryo of the rice kernel. It's nutrient dense, containing high levels of B vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy oils. Together with the bran layer, it gives brown rice and other whole grains their color, the health benefits that may reduce the risk of developing heart disease and certain cancers, and aids in weight maintenance – three more reasons to include UNCLE BEN'S® whole grain products in your diet.

Endosperm

This is the actual inside of the rice grain. Hard and white, it is the carbohydrate-rich energy source of the grain. It contains mainly starch, some protein, vitamins and minerals.
